Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of peers in increasing the learning motivation of eighth-grade students at SMP Islam Bani Hasyim Singosari. Learning motivation is an important aspect in determining the success of the learning process, while peers are a social factor that influences the development of students' behavior and enthusiasm for learning. This study uses a convergent parallel mixed method by combining quantitative data through questionnaires and qualitative data through observation, documentation, and interviews with students, social studies teachers, and the deputy head of curriculum. The results show that positive interactions with peers play a role in increasing students' interest, activity, perseverance, and self-confidence during the learning process. Furthermore, this study shows that peers have a positive influence on students' learning motivation, with a strong and significant relationship. Emotional support, cooperation, and academic assistance from friends have been proven to encourage understanding of the material and increase motivation to learn. This study concludes that peers are an important factor that can strengthen learning motivation through academic interaction and social support, so that collaborative learning strategies and the use of peer tutors need to be optimized to create a more effective and conducive learning environment.
