Abstract

Human resources are the driving force of organizational activities in achieving overall goals. The
success of an organization depends on individual performance. Good performance from individuals in the
organization will make the organization successful and effective. This research aims to identify and
analyze the impact of the work environment and job stress on employee performance through work
motivation. In this context, the work environment, job stress, and work motivation are crucial aspects in
improving employee performance within a company. The method used in this study is quantitative,
employing an explanatory research approach to reveal the causal relationships between the variables in
this research. Data were obtained through questionnaires, with the population consisting of employees of
PT. PLN (Persero) Malang. The sample in this study comprised 109 respondents, selected using a
saturated sampling technique. Data analysis in this study utilized Partial Least Squares (PLS) with the
aid of SmartPLS software. The findings of this study indicate that the work environment and job stress
significantly affect employee performance. Furthermore, work motivation can mediate the influence of the
work environment on employee performance, but it cannot mediate the influence of job stress on
employee performance.
