Abstract

The teaching of Arabic speaking skills for non-native speakers is facing increasing challenges in the digital era, particularly the limited opportunities for authentic speaking practice and learners' fear of making mistakes during oral communication. With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, new opportunities have emerged to support speaking practice through interactive conversational tools that provide a safe and flexible learning environment. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating AI into speaking skills training among students at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang through a qualitative case study. Data were collected through classroom observations of AI-assisted conversational activities, semi-structured interviews with lecturers and students, and an analysis of learners' experiences using voice- and text-based AI applications. The findings indicate that AI integration contributed to improving speaking fluency, increasing learners' self-confidence, and enabling students to receive immediate feedback that facilitated error correction. The most effective tools were interactive conversational models, automated feedback systems, and performance-recording features. However, several challenges were identified, including disparities in students' digital competencies, overreliance on technology, and the absence of sufficient pedagogical guidance. The study concludes that integrating artificial intelligence can become a promising pedagogical approach for enhancing Arabic speaking skills, provided that its implementation is guided by a humanistic educational perspective under the supervision of the teacher.
