Abstract

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related psychological symptoms are common among refugees and immigrants who experience traumatic events before, during and after displacement. Limited access to face-to-face mental health care has prompted the use of digital interventions as scalable alternatives. This meta-analysis evaluates the effectiveness of internet- and mobile-based psychosocial interventions in reducing depression, anxiety and insomnia among displaced populations. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, four randomised controlled trials, involving 788 participants, were included. Pooled analyses demonstrated significant reductions in depressive symptoms (PHQ-9), anxiety (GAD-7) and insomnia severity (ISI) after digital interventions. Sensitivity analyses confirmed the stability of these findings. The results highlight the potential of culturally adapted, gadget-delivered interventions to overcome treatment barriers and provide accessible mental health support to refugees. These findings support wider integration of digital psychosocial tools within refugee health programmes to address unmet mental health needs.
